Donald Trump has announced a 100% tariff on all pharmaceutical products entering the United States. This move is anticipated to make Indian drugs significantly less competitive, potentially causing a loss of market share, decreased sales, and reduced profit margins for India’s pharma firms. A previous tariff-related announcement in 2025 had already triggered single-day stock declines of up to 6% for major Indian pharmaceutical companies. The development is also being viewed as a concern for American citizens. According to a business analyst, “it is a rather threatening news to the world. American citizens because this is an essential good and 100% [tariff] will make it very difficult and expensive for them to buy.” The new import tax will have a considerable impact on companies that manufacture in India and export to the US, including major players like Sun Pharma and Aurobindo Pharma.
