- OpenAI, the generative artificial intelligence startup backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), has more than doubled its annualized revenue to hit $3.4B, The Information reported, citing comments from Chief Executive Sam Altman.
- The vast majority of the revenue (an annualized $3.2B) comes from subscriptions, while the remaining annualized $200M comes from a cut that OpenAI receives when Microsoft sells OpenAI models to Azure customers, the news outlet added.
- OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
- That figure is up from $1.6B seen late last year, the news outlet added, and up from $1B in August 2023.
- ChatGPT, the generative AI chatbot that took the world by storm in late 2022, is routinely among the top free apps in the App Store and Google Play.
- Apple (AAPL) officially announced this week it will integrate OpenAI’s newest large language model, ChatGPT-4o, into its Siri voice assistant, following weeks of speculation.
