OpenAI annualized revenue doubles to hit $3.4B: report

OpenAI, the generative artificial intelligence startup backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), has more than doubled its annualized revenue to hit $3.4B, The Information reported, citing comments from Chief Executive Sam Altman.
The vast majority of the revenue (an annualized $3.2B) comes from subscriptions, while the remaining annualized $200M comes from a cut that OpenAI receives when Microsoft sells OpenAI models to Azure customers, the news outlet added.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
That figure is up from $1.6B seen late last year, the news outlet added, and up from $1B in August 2023.
ChatGPT, the generative AI chatbot that took the world by storm in late 2022, is routinely among the top free apps in the App Store and Google Play.
